Sons of the Dolls did a great piece on “Seattle-NY-LA”

Any reference to the NY Dolls piques my interest and to be referred to as one of their offspring is extremely flattering. I remember seeing the poster for their first album down in the U-District and just being floored. Their music was so powerful and visionary, yet completely classic rock and roll. It not only recalled the style of the beginnings of rock and roll, but the manic power of youth that it focused into an artform better known now as punk rock. The greasy dark gang style danger of artists like the Shangrila’s, Gene Vincent, Archie Bell and Link Wray, combined with the bouncy infectious pop of Gary U.S. Bonds, the Kinks, Bo Diddely, the Who, Chuck Berry, the Stones and the Coasters, with no small reference to the Chicago Blues of Sonny Boy and Howlin’ Wolf. I once spoke to Rick Rivets an original member of the band, prior to the name Dolls, which was coined by Syl Sylvain who who replaced him. He told me that he and Arthur would listen to the Sonics and the (Tacoma) Wailers albums that they found somewhere and that Johnny really liked them too.
